Dosing cannabis is a vital process. Knowing just how much to take ensures that you get enough to feel the benefits without the downside of getting too high. Some methods of delivery are easier to measure accurate doses than others. One of the easiest methods is tinctures. While it’s easier, it still requires a bit of work to help you find the best results for you. Understanding tincture dosing can make the process easier.

What Are Tinctures?

Tinctures are liquid cannabis products. Making a tincture requires extracting the cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, and other beneficial compounds from the plant matter. Most are alcohol-based, although there are some on the market that use oil.

Tincture Dosing Benefits

One of the major draws to tinctures is that they provide easy dosing. The liquid extract, which comes in an opaque bottle, is topped with a lid that has a built-in dropper. There are several other benefits as well, such as:

  • Discretion. They’re small, portable, and don’t leave lingering odors
  • Fast-acting. When taken sublingually, tinctures get to work in as little as 15 to 20 minutes
  • Longevity. Tinctures can last a long time when you store them in a cool, dark place

How to Dose Your Tincture

Tincture labels provide you with plenty of information. Some of the most critical information for dosing is the THC (and CBD content, if applicable) content and the amount of liquid in the bottle. For instance, you may have a 30-milliliter bottle with 300 milligrams of THC in it.

Most droppers have measurement markers on them, showing every 0.25 milliliter. If you were to take 1 milliliter of the tincture, you would know that you are getting 10 milligrams of THC. If you want more or less THC, you can adjust your dosage accordingly. For instance, if you want to microdose, you may choose to take only 0.25 milliliters of the liquid, which would provide you with 2.5 milligrams of THC.

How to Take Your Tincture

One of the most common ways to use a tincture is to place your dose under your tongue. Here, the cannabinoids and other compounds absorb directly into your bloodstream, providing fast-acting relief. With the right dose, you should start to feel the effects in as little as 15 minutes.

Another way to use a tincture is to swallow it, not unlike a capsule. You can do this by dropping your dose directly into your mouth. If you don’t like the flavor, however, you can also mix it into your drink or food. Keep in mind that swallowing the tincture rather than letting it absorb under the tongue means it will take longer to feel the effects. When consumed in this manner, it may take up to 90 minutes or more before you notice a difference.

Getting your tincture dosage right ensures that you reap the incredible benefits of cannabis without going overboard.
